Azure ADD user management
c

CliffAgius

Hi all. I have been chatting with @Lotte about how I can have our Umbraco site use an existing AzureAD user store to manage users of our site. We don't really need to have the users in the backoffice user store as the company manages users in the AAD and if someone joins or leaves the company their user account is created/deleted in AAD but we need them to able to access the secure pages based on the AAD access. @Lotte shared with me a great blog post by @Jeroen Breuer https://www.jeroenbreuer.nl/blog/virtual-members-in-umbraco/ But as they point out this is very much an experiement and I am concerned that using something experimental in a live client project isn't a great idea. SO before I commit to this or tell the client this isn't possible is there something I am missing or a best way to tackle this. Thanks all.

Migrating site to Umbraco Cloud
l

Lewis Heaton

I have been migrating a site to Umbraco Cloud, I have been following the guide @ https://docs.umbraco.com/umbraco-cloud/getting-started/migrate-existing-site. What I'm seeing locally seems to differ what the video/written guide suggests i should be seeing. If there is a better place for me to be asking this then do let me know. Steps I have performed: - Upgraded to the latest version of Umbraco - 'Cleaning the project' (data/temp, logs etc) - Created a new cloud project - Cloned the project - Moved / merged - Pushed code Steps I couldn't perform: - Generate meta data: On my local cloud install, i don't have a deploy tab under settings, so couldn't automate this. I did however, just create all the doc types, data types etc etc in cloud, tedious i know. I have followed the guide where possible as above, and when running my local site, pointing to the cloud db, the site works. But (always a but), when viewing the site on cloud (frontend), I just have a white page! In the back office, I can see doctypes, templates etc etc etc. If anyone fancies showing me where I've gone wrong, then that would be much appreciated! Thanks in advanced

We are getting this error on Umbraco 8. Will the following App settings in the webconfig help resolve this? ... ... Are these safe to use?

Umbraco Cloud, Deploy vs uSync? What's common?
t

TackleMcClean 🏅

We prefer to have our document types etc checked into git for our projects. We're used to uSync, works great! With Umbraco Cloud however there are the
.uda
files in action. I don't understand how you work with this locally however. Do you run a local database, and if so do you have to recreate all document/data types another time in a dev environment? Is it a common approach to use uSync in tandem as well? Within Umbraco Cloud?

[Solution Found] Umbraco 13 Blocklist in members area not working
d

Dann

Hi all, I am trying to add a blocklist to my members area in Umbraco 13.5.2 - I have found this related article https://github.com/umbraco/Umbraco-CMS/issues/10085 however, I'm just wondering if anyone knows if they have found any alternatives? What I am trying to achieve - - Create a blocklist that has a properties of - Nodepicker - string I want to be able to set an expiry date (string) to my node that I have given to a user. Alternatively, I can do this via the node itself and just map the user (opposed to vice versa), however, my client wanted to be able to contol this logic via the member itself not a node. Just as it's easier for them to manage when their platform grows.

Updating Examine index outside of node publishing, i.e custom fields - bad idea??
i

Ian Houghton

I'll try and explain. We have the concept of a "Device" being stored as nodes in Umbraco. For each device we have a number of custom fields being added to the Examine Index in a IndexProviderTransformingIndexValues event. This is working ok. What we would like to do, is add other custom fields against a device i.e Last Log Updated or Last Calibration Date and update these fields when the data "outside" of the node is changed. The data is stored in a custom database table in the same instance as Umbraco with the link being the Device node Key. Yes we could do a SQL lookup from the table, but for performance I want all the data in Examine for retrieval later. Now, I realise that if someone publishes a Device, then these custom fields may get removed or altered (as they dont exist on the Device), and I'll try to handle that, but is there a way to get a record from Examine, update a field, and push it back into Examine, without Publishing the Device node and/or using the IndexProviderTransformingIndexValues?? i.e combo of ValueSetBuilder & IndexPopulator maybe?

Load Balanced Umbraco AWS
t

TheCultOfRa

Hi, I am trying to run Umbraco in AWS under a Load Balanced environment for the front-end. I am planning on using the back-end to access all logs and have no back-office functionality for the front-end. However, my back-office is in one Elastic Container Service Cluster (1 Task tho) while my front-end is in a separate cluster (with 4 Tasks), so I do not believe I can have them mounted to the same volume to write to. I would like to know if it is possible to use the Directory key in [Logging settings](https://docs.umbraco.com/umbraco-cms/reference/configuration/loggingsettings) to read from a url instead of a volume so that the back-office can read from a single location while I use the Sink feature of Serilog to have both clusters write to the same place
