I wonder if anyone has an opinion that they would be willing to state about the pros and cons about creating a home for freelancers to be able to collaborate? I post that question here in the #887257473336107018 channel because I wonder if the #887257473336107018 channel already covers much of the need. From my perspective I would love it if there was a place that I might post: > "Hey! I've got a project that I need some help with. Is anyone free in the next few weeks to collaborate on it with me?" or maybe: > "Hey! I've got a project that I'm too busy to do. Who fancies it?" or perhaps: > "Hey! My work has gone quiet. Does anyone need a hand with theirs?" or possibly even: > "Hey! Does anyone have a support agreement document that I could use as a template?" Messages wouldn't need to start with "Hey!". Does the jobs channel facilitate all that? Would the above be noise for the #887257473336107018 channel, when that is focused on the more traditional jobs market? Would you use a separate channel if it did exist, for things more relevant to freelancers only?

Hey David! I have wanted to ask all 4 of those questions in the past for sure. I'm not strictly speaking a 'freelancer' but the owner of a mini-micro agency, which I reckon counts too 🙂 49% of me thinks the jobs channel is enough. 51% of me thinks having a separate space that allowed freelancers to share things other than just projects / availability is a good idea. I look forward to hearing other thoughts!

I think mini/micro/diddy agencies would absolutely count. The point would not be to exclude people. There would be no reason a big agency couldn't advertise contract roles for example. However, from my experience, when agencies have offered themselves to me as subcontractors their rates have been unaffordable. Also we freelancers are generally muddling through without people to specialise in each discipline of business. With our different needs, you might say that size does sometimes matter 😏.

While we as programmers might love separation of concerns, too many channels lead to too many confusions. How about renaming this channel to jobs-and-gigs maybe?

I agree entirely with what you're saying. In truth, I've already muted a whole bunch of channels because they aren't relevant to me. 'jobs-and-gigs' might well be a good answer. I was hoping to gauge the level of interest through responses. As yet I'm not seeing much interest. I equally I didn't assume that the gold solution would be a new Discord channel on the Umbraco server. It could have been a community elsewhere, if there had been sufficient support.

FYI this site also exists: https://www.umbrajobs.com

Fair point. That is relevant. I'm not sure that it provides much to facilitate collaboration.

I like the idea of jobs and gigs - I'm in the same position as Lotte - not so much freelancer, but micro-agency, but I've had that same thought so many times

Definitely a great idea, I've been trying to build up a network of other freelancers for this purpose. I'm terrible at checking Discord regularly (hence why I'm commenting on a 3 week old thread!). I've always felt a dedicated space for freelancers would be a good idea but never really knew what the best solution would be...

I think we're going to work with using just this Channel for not @Justin Neville . I'm not sure this Discord server is going to provide anything further specific for freelancers, so if there is a desire for more then we could talk about something off this server/Discord.

Thanks @David Peck (Peck Tech) . Let's see if this works for now and we can always explore other options later.
