Codegarden 2024 mega tips & tricks thread

Today it is 28 days until Codegarden! Our website has a lot of practical information: https://codegarden.umbraco.com/practical-information/ but this thread ๐Ÿงต will have more tips and tricks on things like: ๐Ÿ›Œ Hotels & accomodation ๐Ÿš‚ Trains ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Odense / Denmark ๐Ÿค Meeting (new) people / uBuddy โšก The Thursday night dinner and entertainment ๐Ÿชฉ Social events ๐Ÿ”— Related links
๐Ÿ›Œ Hotels / accomodation If you're still looking for hotels, we have pre-booked [the hotels listed for you](https://codegarden.umbraco.com/practical-information/ ), so contact them directly instead of on hotel booking sites, there should still be rooms in these specific hotels.
๐Ÿš‚ Trains By far the most convenient way to get from Copenhagen airport to Odense. There's a bus from Billund airport followed by a train from Vejle. If you're flying in, please consider delays! Pre-bought full-price train tickets work all day, but beware of cheap "Orange" tickets, they are only valid on the selected train ride, on the selected time. Do buy yourself a seat ticket on the trains, it's cheap and you're very welcome to ask someone to move if they're in your paid-for seat. Again, those are only valid on the selected journey, so maybe buy them only when you land Tickets: [the DSB app](https://www.dsb.dk/en/tickets-and-services/dsb-app/) comes in English and offers full tickets and individual seat tickets, saving you a trip to the ticket machines. *Note: * we've heard reports of American credit cards not working well in the app. Visa and Mastercard should work, but possibly only if you've arrived in Denmark, maybe not when you're still at home. Annoyingly, train stations aren't translated very well in the app, so a little guide: Copenhagen airport:
CPH Lufthavn
Copenhagen central station:
Kobenhavn H
Odense station:
Odense St.
Vejle station:
Vejle St.
Billund airport:
Billund Lufhavn
๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ Odense / Denmark If you have a chance, do stick around for the weekend (or longer) in Denmark, it's one of the happiest countries in the world, everybody speaks excellent English and there's many things to see and do. While Odense is great, I recommend a trip to beautiful Copenhagen, check out the water and the sights (I have [a tourist map with things that are beyond the obvious](https://maps.app.goo.gl/3y9qoh7JWW1iwb3N9)).
๐Ÿค Meeting (new) people / uBuddy There is no doubt about it: going to a conference, there's always that thought of "who the heck am I going to be able to talk to?". We've all been there! First things first, you will likely be greeted by a ["high five, you rock"](https://h5yr.com/about/) when you meet people you know, and sometimes even strangers. It's a Friendly thing. After the opening keynote, you've had a beverage, you're hopefully a little more comfortable: if you're new to Codegarden, join us in the Theatre space for the [uBuddy session](https://codegarden.umbraco.com/codegarden-week/ubuddy-program/). We'll demystify a lot of the words that people might use and the habits formed over the years so you'll be in on it, instead of that awkward grimmace of not knowing what people mean. If you're up for it, we'll even pair you up with some more experienced Codegardeners to be your Umbraco Buddy (uBuddy). Also, you're all here in this Discord channel: pre-meet people here ๐Ÿ‘‹ Need more ideas? @Lotte wrote an excellent blog posts titled [The Extreme Sport of Solo-Conferencing](https://dev.to/lottepitcher/the-extreme-sport-of-solo-conferencing-5dhe) and it has some references to Codegarden too, highly recommended to give it a read. Did you know about the Pacman rule? ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ
โšก The Thursday night dinner and entertainment You may, or may not have heard about the (in)famous "bingo" night. Now, at no point at any time have ever said bingo will be back.. but it might just be. If you have not heard about bingo, then ask your uBuddy. In any case, we have a delicious 3-course dinner planned for you on the Thursday evening of Codegarden. It's always awkward, sitting at the dinner table with new people, so as a bit of a distraction and talking point: throughout the evening there will be some light entertainment. Sit back, relax and enjoy it - or.. when there is a chance: participate, you won't regret it!
๐Ÿชฉ Social events [Check out the schedule](https://codegarden.umbraco.com/codegarden-program/) as well for social events, there's a bike ride, padel tournament, a runners club a pre-party with a 90s theme and if you want to enjoy online: use

on your socials.
