Alternative Search Engines

Does anyone remember the Google search engine, when it was still clean and nice?? I've been using Kagi (https://kagi.com/) full-time for a month now and happily pay for it. It is absolutely rock solid, I find what I need and none of the BS that Google pushes in. Anyone else tried any alternative search engines and liked them? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/869656431308189749/1253249341737668639/image.png?ex=66752ae7&is=6673d967&hm=869064b5dbae63cfe477811fdf840de7cc8d89da4a0661360e562abc794ad1d8& https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/869656431308189749/1253249342261952512/image.png?ex=66752ae7&is=6673d967&hm=ef848249b14277371e263b25b4b0847f9f49fd94553b503bab82271701367bb7&

Been suing DuckDuckGo for years until earlier this year since I wanted to try something else. I was very close to pay for Kagi but then they partnered with Brave, which I don’t want to support. Been switching between Qwant and swisscows, and I find both of them usually returns what I’m looking for within the first few results

Damn. Okay, I'll cancel them and state that it's because of Brave. I just want to pay for a good search engine damnit!!

What's up with Brave these days? Thought they were good people 😄

> Brave, as you know, is led by Brendan Eich. Mr. Eich is infamous for his unrepentant financial support of California's Prop 8, aka California's gay marriage ban. Mr. Eich's homophobia is so disgusting that he was forced to resign as the leader of Mozilla after a massive outcry from their employees and community members. Since then, Mr. Eich has only defended his homophobia, and has gone on to spread misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic. https://kagifeedback.org/d/2808-reconsider-your-partnership-with-brave

What is the nature of Kagi's partnership with Brave? All I can find is info on them consuming Brave's data as one of the many indices they use, which doesn't seem like a partnership to me.
(I was planning to adopt Kagi in the near future, and I can deal with ingesting Brave's data, but I would be uncomfortable with them having more substantial business relations there.)

Good point: > Brave has a public search api and we currently implemented it for about 10% of queries as a first test (same as any other API we use, there is no mutual development or anything of the sorts). So it's the public search API, they're not giving any of that money to Brave it seems.

Yeah, I am basically trying to figure out if there's something more unsavory here that's not being mentioned, or if people are overstating the depth of integration implied by index usage. (This is an area of some interest for me, since I started my career off at Windows Live Search, now Bing, in the era when it was building up its own index. Building an index is hard.)
