Morning people! This may be a bit random but I'm looking for a good website or android app (probably just a website) where I can put my recipes. I don't need it to suggest anything, just my recipe, ingredients, maybe pictures of what it should look like. I'd just use bookmarks but recipe sites are absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to use.. 😱 https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/869656431308189749/1293875344801009684/Screenshot_2024-10-10-11-57-33-81_40deb401b9ffe8e1df2f1cc5ba480b12.jpg?ex=6708f6d1&is=6707a551&hm=78c8f6a9467a6b8fdf47d0b1b23f0e34e16e76b19445ccdde900851cb380eb13&
I've considered using [Obsidian](https://obsidian.md/).. maybe I should look into that again.

Then just wait a few years until 95% of recipes on the internet is AI generated spam without any care about if the recipes actually produce the food you expect.

😂
I will just expect it to make surprising great food that nobody would've thought about making 😇 (yeah, right.. that will happen!)

Personally I'm using Notion for all sorts of stuff, which also includes a recipe book 🙂 I think I based it on this template https://www.notion.so/templates/recipe-book

That is such a good shout @Corné Hoskam ! Didn't realize they have a free tier, which should be enough to get this up and running. Plus they have an android app, for the kitchen tablet 👀
Of course the real answer is that I need to build it as an Umbraco site.. 😂
But I'm not Matt Brailsford.. 😉
c
Haha yeah notion is pretty awesome, even for the free tier. For just personal use there is barely any reason to need the paid version, even as I use it for note taking as well 🙂
No need to kill a mosquito with a bazooka when a flyswatter does the job 😉

My wife still prints them out, plasticizes and puts in a folder 🤣

I am now using Obsidian for my recipes. I have not yet settled on a template but I used to have them in 20 places and now they are in one!

If Danish recipes are okay, we recently launched a new website for Danish Crown, which includes a section for recipes. One of the goals is to be user-friendly, so no annoying ads and it works great on mobile as well: https://www.danishcrown.com/da-dk/opskrifter/

I write mine on notecards and put them in the recipe book my mom gave me when I moved out 20 years ago... Sometimes "old fashioned" is just nice.

If it works it’s good , and then there is the tactile element .. to a recipe book card
c
@Sebastiaan we use AnyList. My wife plans all our meals and then selects the recipes she wants to make that week and it adds all of the ingredients to the shopping list for her if she wants. It also works with Alexa
s
Haha! It's not a bad shout! Or.. I could use Obsidian, which is just markdown files, and commit them to git. Make it public, have people send PRs with improvements.. 🤔 I'll talk myself out of this immediately: I maintain enough repos already, stop it Seb 😂
Oh cool, I haven't come across that yet, and yes Danish is fine for recipes! Though I do want to copy the recipes into something since I want my favorites just to be in one place
Haha cool! I can't stand old fashioned recipe cards / books! I'm also a bit of a minimalist, so that feel like "clutter" to me!
Cool! What does the Alexa integration do?
c
We use it to add things to our shopping list on AnyList. It can probably do more. "Alexa, ask AnyList to put tea bags on Asda"

Does the app JustTheRecipe work on android? First of all it turns those horrible long wordy blog posts with ads and a recipe somewhere in, into “just the recipe”. And gives option of saving. Works like a charm, on IOS
s
ooohh! 👀
aaah I see! I have a full android table so I can do the "hey google" things as well I think, but it's still not a great experience talking to devices (IMO), maybe alexa is a lot better at understanding you though!
j
Well it’s all a single recipe book and I keep my notecards and art supplies all organized in my kallax unit anyway so I don’t think it’s that much clutter! Maybe if I had a bunch of books

We have a winner! Fantastic website, they have a public roadmap (including API access coming soon) and they do automatic (and really good) conversions to the metric system. Given that I can get my data out through the API, I feel comfortable that if this service ever disappears, I don't lose the work I put in it. Excellent tip, thanks Lotte!
