Good morning all! General question (feel free to open a thread to the first person that answers), but how do you prepare for talks, how do you plan for something that could last half an hour, and are there any useful articles you read which may help? Thanks 🙂

So I use my slides as cue cards Sone people have a script Video yourself - Try not to ver um and eh Don’t try and put too much on your slides
Practice Video your self Make it a subject you know and are confident in - it means you you are more comfortable
Make the presentations story It’s easier for people to follow though not all talks can should be done like this
Use the presentation notes Some people like a solid script I’m a free styler my slides are the cue cards
Look around nd don’t llways look at your notes if you can Move around if you can
Al people to hold questions till the end
Don’t try and make it funny it doesn’t always work
And last have fun

Thanks all, really great advice!! @Dean Leigh I'll tag you in one this as I saw your reply outside of this thread. For context, I'm speaking at a meetup in a couple of weeks so its more for me how to structure slides, content vs speaking, and generally how to compose myself. I think I'm on the right path, but figured I'd get some advice to help progress it along

One bit of advice I heard from another organiser speaking to a nervous speaker was: "Everyone in the room is here to learn from you and the other speakers. They are all imagining themselves standing in your place and are empathetic to how you are feeling. They are all on your side and want you to succeed."

Thanks Dean, that helps 🙂
Just been chatting to @Ravi for nearly an hour who spent the time having a nice conversation and sharing tips to help me along the journey of doing a talk for the first time. MASSIVE #H5YR to him for taking the time during his day off, really appreciate it!
