Random side-topic. I know a few people are advocates for self-hosting, docker stuff and what not here. Has anyone used/run an Immich server to sdelf host their photos & move away from Google, Apple etc.. https://immich.app/
s
Not... yet! 😁 looks cool!

Yeh thats my thought - and I thought you would be one of the peeps already using/running this Seb.

Wonder if it can just sync from Google photos into there, that would be my prefered option so it's a backup in case Google goes full evil
I think my next little project will be a backup system, just in case the house burns down I do want my data to live somewhere in a (European...) Cloud.

I am just using it as a use case to play & learn a bit about docker, TailScale stuff etc
But yeh trying to be more conscious of all the bloody subscriptions I seem to have

Great stuff. Have a look at Tailscale Drive as well, to make fileshares between your Tailscale machines, really good stuff!
w
ooooh not heard of that
Need to look at more of tailscale bits
TailDrop looks neat as well https://tailscale.com/kb/1106/taildrop

ah yes, I heard this was coming, looks great too!

I run owncloud on a raspberry pi to host my docs & images etc
w
Ah yeh I was tempted to look at owncloud

It works great on my phones and laptop. Accessing the web interface is a little sluggish, but my server running on a pi3 so not the fastest thing 🙂 but has been running for a couple of years now

Been running Tailscale for a few years now - makes all the hassel of opening firewalls and so on mute. Excellent product 🙂

It's SO good! And like GitHub it feels like they're giving away way too much for free haha

Yeh im a fan & convert !! Pi2 on Tailnet used to send a WOL command to Desktop rig and then I can remote into it once its booted and joined the Tailnet is my main use case scenario

Tailscale for home networking is just amazing! It's less good at being a VPN for onward hops (or was last time I checked) but if you have any home network apps, tailscale is the way to go!
I also use OpenVPN so I can get to my secured resources when i'm out and about
