I've bought my kids ryzen 5500u cpu laptops, picked up for about £180 2nd hand and upgraded the ram - 6 core, 12 thread, more than enough to do light dev, even run docker. the 5700u has 8 cores and 16 threads, which does make a difference, but they use more power, so the battery can be a less good
