Goooood morning y'all! What are we all working on today?
I've been working on 2FA for Umbraco Members and I'm writing up a blog post about how I implemented recovery codes
l
Nothing, Im on holiday 😆
o
Doing some postcode lookup / converting to geo location stuff today I think
l
Nice! We made a sinple private package for address input in the backoffice and GPS coordinate lookup so we only need to look that up once every save
o
I have used https://marketplace.umbraco.com/package/bergmania.openstreetmap in the backoffice and it works perfectly, this is more on the front end, so if I user enters a postcode, I need to convert that to a lat/lng coordinate and find the closest location

@Warren Buckley wrote a lovely lookup using google maps api and Our.Umbraco.GMaps for us
w
WHat did I do ?!
d
Fat fingers tiny Surface keyboard @Warren Buckley
w
Ah sorry for you/client yes. Thought you meant some package thing
d
They still haven't renewed the licence! I'll be chasing them this week. I know that it was one of the first packages @Sebastiaan tried to update to the new back office. I wonder if it ever went live?
Apparently not. That would be a nice Umbracollab to make that 16+ https://marketplace.umbraco.com/package/our.umbraco.gmaps
o
This sounds like the exact same thing as what Bjarke package does in U15.

Well my day is trying to extend the content picker as a property editor and getting very puzzled 🙃 https://forum.umbraco.com/t/how-do-i-reuse-extend-the-umbraco-content-picker-in-my-own-property-editor/4696

It's funny I tried a few weeks back using Claude Code and it made a perfectly great looking maps editor for me. But I never got a chance to review the code, which is probably not the best. 😅
It's getting too expensive to run Google Maps on sites anyway, so I think most people are choosing OSM anyway

We were using free mode, I hope this is still correct: Google offers $200 in free credits per month, which can cover: Up to 28,000 Dynamic Map loads Or 100,000 Static Map loads Or a mix of services
