What's your office setup?
Hiya all πŸ‘‹ *What is your office setup look like? πŸ“· * What's the one thing you can't live without in your office? I am after some desk setup & office inspirations for when I finally move out the box room in the house, back to a bigger space in a cabin down the end of the garden.
c
This is what my home-office setup currently looks like (When cleaned up, so it's a picture I took earlier haha). Combined with some extra shelving and a bookcase surrounding my desk to house the various goodies I like having around as decoration & hobbies! Can't do without this sit-stand desk from IKEA, never having to sit behind a too high or too low desk ever again!
s
I'm going more and more minimalist.. 2 screens and loads of software is where I'm at for now. Stream Deck is nice but not required. I do really this simple gadget to keep cables out of sight, but withing reach: https://www.ankerkw.com/product/anker-magnetic-cable-holder-blue/
w
Any photo @Sebastiaan ?
I am curious about the 4 speakers I see ?!
c
5 and a subwoofer even, for that 5.1 surround sound! Though not that exciting haha, it's a rather basic Logitech surround setup I bought years and years ago, but still has some magnificent audio!
s
This is at the office, home is basically the same. But with nice Hue lights for some fun colors.. and more plants!
The monitor raiser has also been a game changer, small but significant!
w
You ditched like loads of monitors. You had your laptop, some USB monitor and those two at one point didn't you mate?
s
Yeah I was getting much too distracted with all those screens! I miss a dedicated music screen, but I think I'll hook up an old phone to just pump out music to me.
Portable USB screen is still handy for when I'm sitting at Warpigs doing some work πŸ˜‰
w
Looks neat & clean. My desk/space is just an utter mess and hence after seeing others setup & spaces to be inspired
s
Yeah I totally Marie Kodoed it! πŸ˜‚
w
haha does it bring me joy ?! πŸ˜‚
c
Talking about Warpigs, I'm sure glad Jeroen Breuer convinced me to go when we were there for CG22 πŸ˜‚
s
Haha! Just came back from lunch there.. πŸ˜‡ It's a 3 minute walk from the copenhagen office space πŸ™ˆ
w
Yum. I’m jealous !
Mine is an utter mess and I feel a bit claustrophobic with it all. Think for me I need to get a new desk and get that clunky desktop box hanging underneath it or something.
m
Reality 😦
w
I like the idea of camera being more at eye level
haha yep I didn't show you the full mess of my little box room πŸ™ˆ
I was thinking L shaped desk - but it seems you use it mostly to store more random stuff Mark ?
m
I'm long overdue to show my setup more love. I "need" shelves mostly for all the random gear scattered on the desk. I used to work on both sides. The main side was my windows machine and I did a lot of design. The other side of the desk I dedicated to testing. I mean I have a shelf of junk in this very room that you don't see in the picture, but it would be nice to have it organized above the desk.
s
Cupboards, definitely hiding my stuff! I know @Matt Wise has worked on a cool new setup recently.
w
Come on @Matt Wise make me inspired !!
m
I am in the office, today 😦 so here is not the best picture πŸ˜„
49" curved on a corner desk. Planning on moving to a sit stand soon. And I still need to decorate Monitor has 1 leg the other two are hue play bars
Ill get a wider shot tomorrow πŸ™‚
but you have to promise not to judge the current cable situation XD
w
Looks pretty neat/tidy to me !
m
The usb switch needs to under the desk for me
w
Hows the ultrawide treating you. I am not sure I could get on with it or not...
m
Enjoying it windows 11 and fancy zones makes it easier to manage windows. I have 1080p browser ide then split the rest for email/teams/console
Sometimes I use a 75% picture by picture and maybe I play games on the other 25%
The joys of MMOs
w
Ah that sounds useful to have two input sources running side by side. But yeh I would probably get a bit distracted if I had that option πŸ™ˆ
m
You can also do picture in picture, but moving it around requires using the montior controls not your mouse
If work let me install some software I wouldnt need the switch either
I clearly need to up my mic game though
s
This mic is nice but it did take weeks of faffing about to get it to sound okay, don't think I'd go for it again (though not sure what I would choose instead, options get a lot more expensive if you go XLR and need an XLR processor as well). Maybe
w
Yeh mic stuff with this XLR is faff - had it from a loooong time ago. Have a love/hate with the thing
m
I need to spend some time with OBS really, as I need an easy way to share "screen" now... πŸ˜„
not really fair sharing the whole screen to a laptop user
and having the ability to share multiple apps is so common..
w
Yeh I bet that's not fun when sharing your screen with an ultrawide on Zoom/Slack/Teams etc...
have a feeling I need to get that this approved now XD
m
... no chance you'll be playing Diablo 4? I should put this in the gaming section sorry.
o
My current setup. Messy desk.
hate all the wires.
w
Love the bonsai & Lego Minifig's
The long rectangular things on the desk - more webcams or speakers or... ?!
s
Philips Hue lights πŸ™‚
w
Ah OK thanks Seb πŸ˜„
s
I have a pair too haha
o
Bonsai was a gift from the Collab team after my mum passed away - It's doing very well.
w
The tree's doing well & that was a lovely & thoughtful gift from them. Sorry for your loss Owain x
Hue stuff I just dont want another box/hub to plugin to router to do light stuff. I prefer bulb/devices can just talk wireless straight away. But on another note are they any good?
o
I really like them - nice for the winter months to just light up the back wall Mum passed over a year ago so I'm even more impressed that the bonsai is still here 🀣 It's a lovely gift and reminder of how fab the community is.
w
Shows how bad my finger is on the pulse with community news & stuff πŸ™ˆ
o
To be honest, I can't remember what I had for breakfast let alone anything else some days. πŸ™‚
m
I wish I could keep a plant alive.
c
That's why I have 3 cacti and a plastic plant at my desk, making it easier to keep 'em alive πŸ˜‚
m
Current state of play
s
Is the cube clock just a clock? Or does it have another purpose as well?
m
just a clock with the wrong time on it πŸ˜„
s
+53 minutes off
m
Going to be even worse after the weekend when the clocks go back
s
haha true.. so just decoration then? πŸ˜›
m
Ill get round to making it correct one day... I have to google it every time to remember how
s
Thanks to the chat yesterday I tried to figure out if it was even possible to use a phone as a remote for YouTube Music (I left Spotify because they're trying to ruin podcasting). And.. it is possible! So now the old phone is a permanent remote control. Using Tailscale to connect without having to fiddle with firewalls etc. πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€
w
So its using TailScale VPN thingy how to control your music on your desktop?! Also is the ergo mouse any good Seb. I like my MX Master 3 one but was curious about the ergo one.
s
Just using Tailscale to get an IP, it needs an IP to route the remote calls..so now I could even control my work pc from home lol
w
So the phone app or desktop software still must be special to control your music. Or is your phone just RDP'd to your machine & mirroring some UI ?! My feeble brain can't compute this...
m
I love the MX vertical πŸ™‚ took me a couple of hours now my old mouse feels wrong
s
MX vertical is great, I had to get is because I even ruined my arm with the trackball now.. I'm so old πŸ˜… 😬
Just uses TCP/IP to send message between my desktop app and the phone. I didn't want the phone to be for the music as I like playing tunes during video calls πŸ˜‰
w
Thats why you never listen to me properly πŸ˜‚
s
Yep, Swift is distracting me πŸ˜‚
o
This is my current home setup, still a tad messy and the wall needs re-painting! I have a switchable usb hub to switch my keyboard, microphone and webcam between my work laptop and my personal pc 😁
For mice, I use different ones for work/gaming, I have a Logitech G502 X for my personal pc and a Microsoft IntelliMouse Pro for work
