It is officially deprecated, and to quote Seb; "We're working on a block based grid editor as well, not sure if that will make it for v10, haven't checked the roadmap for a while" "Okay it's not on the roadmap yet 😅 😦" So maybe no official plans for it's removal yet... but plans for a replacement, yes
