I also think they stay on the clipboard and you can have multiple ones copied, so if you put 3 of them on the clipboard you get to choose from those 3 each time you want to create a new block. So they don't have to go back and forth each time they need a new block type. Hope this is how it works, I might be misremembering! Do test it out!
