Morning gang - what we all working on today/this week ?!
For me it's to check on some MVP submissions and some help for frontend team for WebComponent based backoffice.
o
Working on APIs and trying to find time for some self learning 😄
c
I'm getting my hands wet implementing Search on a site that will have loads of pages/content when launched. Will probably need to add a
TreeSearcher
(or whatever they're called :-) too.
w
@Owain nice - whats the topic for self learning ?!
FAB stuff @Chriztian Steinmeier - so not using XSLTSearch then for it 😛
o
C# - a very wide area but just trying to better my skills 🙂
h
I'm still in Spain on my sabbatical 😄 so learning spanish and playing with Umbraco/.net core
w
@huwred nice place for a sabbatical - hopefully enjoying the sunshine and beaches ?
c
Be careful Warren - trust me, I'd been done a week ago had I used XSLTSearch 😁
w
@Chriztian Steinmeier hahah simpler times for sure
h
I most certainly am 😆 beach is just across the road.
w
LUSH !
h
only a few weeks left unfortunately, then back to damp and cold 🤣
w
Make the most of it then - get off the computer and get out there !!
h
currently sat on the terrace drinking ☕
l
How do! Hopefully today will be getting back into planning a v7 > v10/11 upgrade... 🤞
w
Heya Lotte - hopefully you can stand on the shoulders of giants who have done this before to give you some pointers.
o
We've been doing that recently. Been using uSync Migrate and it worked really well.
l
Yeah that's the plan! Done a quick uSync migrate a while ago and amazed how well it works. Now just need to think about what we want to do with vorto content and DTGE. It will be a fun challenge, especially the latter I think!
s
@Chriztian Steinmeier Does it help to have a look at this simple search like this one from @CodeSharePaul ? https://github.com/prjseal/Clean-Starter-Kit-for-Umbraco-v9/blob/main/Clean.Site/Views/search.cshtml
I have a confession 🤚 I've just used uSync for the first time ever today 🙈 It's super impressive! 😮
w
Yep it's amazing isn't it @Sebastiaan
c
Thanks Seb - did look at Paul's series actually; the problems of course arise as soon as you're outside of "simple" - e.g., multi-language searching; searching categorized and tagged content. And I haven't even mentioned 'the JSON-blob elephant in the room' (oops, just did - sorry 🤣 )
j
I am working on so many Umbraco upgrades from 7 or 8 to 10. That is my entire sprint
OMG this is gorgeous!!!
j
Hahaha I wish I could bring them to 11, but we're waiting to make some decisions since they're both using the Grid. So by getting them on LTS we can have them on a good stable version and then upgrade to 11 and migrate their grid editors to the new block grid as a Phase 2.
s
Haha yeah, I know clients love to stick to LTS 👍 Can't believe we never made use of the Spinal Tap reference!
j
Especially government clients! LTS is one of their favorite acronyms!
s
😁 nothing wrong with that! Hope the migrations go smoothly, seems like a daunting task!
j
It is, but it means I always get to learn a lot 😄
