What would cause an MNTP to be greyed out?

Multi-lingual site. Have a Products page (vary by culture) containing an MNTP (vary by culture) which is set to pick Category pages (vary by culture). But when I come to click on the MNTP to select a Category, the items to pick from are all greyed out, as can be seen below. I've set everything I can think of to "vary by culture", but is there something else I'm missing?

07/07/2023, 5:46 AMUsually the content is greyed out if they're not one of the content types that you allowed for picking in the mntp settings
