Hey. Does anyone know what software the Umbraco Community Forums is built on? https://our.umbraco.com/forum/ I know there used to be forum module back in the v7 or so days, the there is currently in the Marketplace Uintra and MediaWiz Simple Forums, but interested to know specifially what the Community Forums is using. Any other recommendations for Forums? Am considering YAFNET as an option. thanks Kam

It's built on... Umbraco 😂 I'm not sure it was built on any specific forum package or anything. You can see the full source code for it here https://github.com/umbraco/ourumbraco

That's perfect! Thank you. I was looking for a module on the marketplace, but this is even better! And of course, figured it was built on Umbraco, just didn't want to go build it myself on Umbraco 😂

Well it's still on v7, so not sure if it still has its uses 😉
Copy code
<AssemblyName>OurUmbraco.Site</AssemblyName>
    <TargetFrameworkVersion>v4.8</TargetFrameworkVersion>

As the maintainer of that forum, for the past 12 years: don't build your own, don't try to shoehorn something into Umbraco. Get dedicated forum software and run it on a subdomain. Discourse is most excellent and MIT licensed as well. You can host your own or have them host it (it's like Umbraco vs Umbraco Cloud basically).

Thanks for the feedback. It's still very early in this requirement, so will steer them away from this. Had also suggested Uintra or https://www.yetanotherforum.net/ as possible options. Will add Discourse to that list, open source is good, hosted open source even better!

+1 we also bolted on Discourse to run on a subdomain rather than trying to build within Umbraco itself
d
+1 For Discourse - I've embedded it in many sites over the years and it 'just works'
j
(when you say "embed", do you mean https://disqus.com/ or https://www.discourse.org/?)
d
I mixed them up - yes I have embedded disqus and it has not been bad at all
